Tabu originally was built from various kind of wood. According to the building habits in that times under the waterline it was built from oak and above the waterline it was made from mahogany. The upkeep of the boat was bear hard on the owner of the boat so he had to sell Tabu by 1980. Lajos kollár and his friend István Perjés bought the boat. In the spring of 1981 they started to renovate the boat themselves because the boat was in really bad conditions.
They were made an effort to renovate the boat and used putty, tow tallow and so on. When it was put on water it sank immediately then after 3 day long pumping it swelled. Tabu was taken to Balatonföldvár which was its later port. They could use the boat through the season. The new owners’ original base was Port Lacaj which was the acropolis of jolles on Lake Balaton. They were sailing here with a 25 feet boat. Tabu had a place there in autumn. The real renovation was in Port Lacaj in the next year. It meant the replacing of all of the rotten planks and eight ribs and the typical renovation process of that times which meant covering the hull with plastic. Poor Tabu became heavier and ugly but at least it floated dependably.
